Assault Bike Vs Airdyne: Which Bike Is Better?

Last update:

First of all, I am proud of you that you are planning to workout on this bike. These types of machines are good for cardio, and you use your whole body in this workout. As a personal trainer, I recommend doing cardio at least 3 times a week. Those bikes can help you get there.

assault bike vs airdyne

Being in the fitness industry for more than 17 years, I’ve seen all sorts of indoor bikes. I’ve seen them come and go, and I’ve seen their popularity rise and fall.

But there are bikes that seem to last longer in the spotlight, unlike others.

The Schwinn Airdyne and Assault Bike Classic are two of those kinds of bikes. Of course, like other fitness lovers, I took pleasure in trying out these two air bikes.

I was also intrigued by which one is better. I’ve seen many people ask this question, so I decided to find out for myself.

Drive system comparison

The bike’s drive system plays a massive role in your performance. It transforms your leg power into forward motion, impacting your ride experience and comfort.

The Assault Bike Classic has a chain-driven system, which reminds me of an authentic outdoor biking experience. They are noisy due to metal parts clashing and banging, and the chain rattles around sprockets.

But you might love that authentic sound as you push through the rides that can immerse you in that outdoor feel bike experience. Your pedal power moves the bike through tension, not a metal link.

Meanwhile, the Schwinn Airdyne uses a belt-driven system for ultra-smooth and near-silent rides. Because they’re made of rubber or similar materials, you pedal smoothly and quietly.

I’ve noticed that Airdyne’s belt-driven system doesn’t need constant lubrication, like the chain-driven system found in the Assault Bike. They have a lesser tendency to loosen over time, which makes them superior to Assault Bike.

Winner Drive Method Comparison

Airdyne is a winner because it requires less maintenance, runs quietly, and provides riders with an ultra-smooth ride.

Construction comparison

Considering the construction comparison between the Assault Bike and Airdyne ensures you invest in a durable bike that enhances your bike experience.

Fan and Blades

The drive system takes center stage when considering which exercise bike to buy.

After testing and handling several bikes, I found that you should focus on the drive systems. It’s not merely the brand or model that counts, but how effectively the bike fits your needs.

With an air bike, the resistance you experience isn’t determined by settings or complex adjustments, but by how hard or fast you pedal.

When you pedal on an air bike, the movement causes the fan blades to cut through the air to create resistance. And if you pedal lightly, the fan moves slower, creating less resistance.

But, once you increase your pedaling force or speed, the fan spins faster and generates more air resistance, intensifying your cycling. Of course, some bikes still come with resistance settings, which is an addition to your workout experience.

Air bikes such as Assault and Airdyne base your workout’s intensity on air resistance.

The Assault Bike sports a standout 27-inch steel fan. This cordless design lets you control your workout by pedaling at your own pace. The open-air blades create resistance, and the harder you pedal, the stronger it gets.

Airdyne also flaunts a high-strength fan.

Like the Assault Bike, Airdyne’s open-air blade produces resistance according to how hard you’re pedaling. This puts you in control of the intensity of your biking.

Additionally, the Airdyne Bike provides up to 100 resistance levels, a striking feature that makes it versatile. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, you can adjust this bike’s difficulty to fine-tune your routine.

With the Airdyne Bike, you certainly get a broader scale to play around with, and if you’re someone who loves tinkering with settings, this would be ideal.

The Assault Bike brings a significantly different experience with its 8 resistance levels. Even though this number is much less than the Airdyne, it does not necessarily translate into a limitation.

If you prefer simplicity and fewer options, the Assault Bike might be the more appealing.

Sometimes, having fewer settings can help you concentrate more on the workout than adjusting the settings.

Seat

I find the Assault Bike and the Airdyne both equally offer comfortable and adjustable seats.

The Assault Bike features a sporty seat design that allows you to adjust according to your height or preference.

With a simple pop-pin lock, you can change the seat’s position up, down, or sideways to suit you. The seat offers 11 height and 5 forward-backward settings for customization.

The Airdyne bike emphasizes delivering a highly comfortable experience, thanks to its padded and larger-sized seat. This extra cushioning ensures you enjoy optimum comfort even during extended workout sessions.

These bike seats help with good posture while cycling, which I found useful. It’s nice to know that the seats look out for my safety while I ride.

The materials used are of top quality and tough, which shows the makers thought about the riders’ long-term use. I appreciate its built-to-last design.

I was also impressed with the bikes’ secure locks and smooth rails. They made each ride better and problem-free.

Such careful design makes your cycling experience more enjoyable.

Handles

The Assault and Airdyne bikes have moveable handles that add a twist to typical biking. It turns the ride into a full-body workout.

Assault Bikes’ dynamic 28.6 mm diameter handles offer you an all-round exercise. These handles move in sync with your pedal strokes to create a rhythmic pattern forward and backward.

Similar to an Assault bike, the Airdyne handles move in harmony with your pedaling.

I found the handles moved back and forth provides an effective arm workout. I got a gym and cycling experience in one ride.

I admire the stable, rubber-wrapped handles that ensure a non-slip grasp during arm exercises.

Size

The Assault Bike, measuring roughly 50.95 L x 23.34 W x 50 H inches, requires some room, but it gives you stability in return.

A tad smaller in size, Airdyne bikes generally measure 49.7 L x 25.7 W x 50.9 H inches, an ideal fit for smaller spots yet a powerful space-saving solution.

You can save more space with the Airdyne Bike than the Assault Bike.

Maintenance

Assault Bike may require regular lubing and touch ups, while Airdyne is near a maintenance-free system that only requires occasional belt replacement.

Winner Construction Comparison

Airdyne wins for construction comparison because it’s comfortable to use, has a 100 resistance level, and is adjustable. With a low-maintenance system, it only requires an occasional belt replacement.

Weight capacity comparison

You should know how much weight your equipment can hold for safety and performance reasons.

The Assault Bike offers a weight capacity of 350 pounds. This allows you to use the bike and push your limits without worrying much about your safety.

Due to the bike’s rugged construction, you can secure a stable ride during intense workouts.

Not to be outdone, the Airdyne can comfortably hold bikers weighing up to 300 pounds. You can feel supported while pedaling hard on the Airdyne.

Both bikes felt stable even at my max riding speed when I used them. You shouldn’t have anything to worry about, as long as you are within their weight restrictions.

Winner Weight Capacity Comparison

The weight capacity comparison winner is the Assault Bike, because it can support a weight of up to 350 pounds.

Console Comparison

Look at the console to determine whether workout equipment is good. That’s where it records and optimizes your workout data.

assault bike vs airdyne console

Upon receiving both Assault Bike and Airdyne Bike for my home gym, I noticed their console features and workout options.

Assault Bike Classic

The Assault Bike has a high-contrast console readable display highlighting the fitness metrics.

The bike takes a smart step by housing a polar wireless heart rate receiver to keep your pace perfect as you pedal and track your heart rate with unmatched precision.

The console’s LCD Hi-Contrast screen delivers various workout data, like:

  • Watts: Measure your power output instantly.
  • RPM (revolutions per minute): Monitor your pedaling speed.
  • Calories burned: Keep track of your energy burned.
  • Heart rate: Track your cardiovascular speed.
  • Distance covered: Know the lengths you’ve pedaled.
  • Time spent: Understand the duration of your workout.
  • Odometer reading: Record your total reach.
  • Speed: Monitor pedaling
  • Programs:
    • Intervals
    • Target Time
    • Target Distance
    • Target Calories
    • Target Heart Rate

I appreciated the data-driven approach of the Assault Bike’s console. It allowed me to keep track of key metrics such as power output, time, and distance—a feature I believe will resonate with beginners looking for guidance and tracking.

It’s worth mentioning the user-friendly layout of the console. The large, well-spaced buttons facilitated an easy setup of workouts and quick access to data mid-workout.

I see the Assault Bike’s console is all about detail, adaptability, and accuracy in indoor cycling.

Schwinn Airdyne

Switching to the Airdyne bike console, I’m impressed by its beginner-friendly design—dominated by the intuitive RevMeter™ RPM gauge. It stood out as a powerful feature for accurately measuring my cycling efforts.

Also, the built-in telemetry feature for heart rate tracking, compatible with a Polar strap, operating within the 4.5kHz – 5.5kHz band, encompasses my needs for health tracking while I work out.

The minimalist design caught my eye. A casual observer might mistake the console’s simplicity. However, its easy-to-read, and user-friendly buttons are what you need.

This console display is readily available and accessible at all times.

The console on Airdyne serves up different metrics:

  • RevMeter™: Pedaling speed at your fingertips.
  • Time: Know the duration of your workout.
  • Distance: Monitor the distance you’ve covered.
  • RPM (revolutions per minute): Assess your rotational speed.
  • Calories: Keep tabs on your calorie expenditure.
  • Power: Monitor your power output.
  • Pulse: Track your heartbeat.
  • Speed: Monitor pedaling

You just need 2 AA batteries (not included) to power all these functions.

Winner Console Comparison

The Assault bike is the winner, because it excels in providing better features and metrics on its console than the Airdyne.

Assault Bike Vs Airdyne: The Winner

When choosing a winner, both bikes have a reputation for their long-term durability that can withstand hardcore training.

But if I choose a winner, I will go for Schwinn Airdyne for the following reasons:

  • Airdyne offers up to 100 resistance levels.
  • Airdyne has a comfortable adjustable padded seat for longer workouts.
  • Airdyne is low-maintenance, quiet, and produces a smooth ride with its belt drive system.

However, this does not mean the Assault Bike Classic is not a suitable option. It’s still a reliable bike for your home gym.

Many bikers prefer the Assault Bike Classic because they have a pre-set program for training, a more advanced display, and higher weight capacity.

But for the cycling experience, I think Airdyne is better.
