In this article, we will review the best full-body workout machines for home use.

When looking for a full-body workout machine, there is no one-size-fits-all solution that can target all your body parts.

As a personal trainer, I recommend you look for a machine that is as versatile and functional as possible. Instead of buying several exercise machines for each workout, look for equipment that combines multiple machines into one.

That way, you’ll save money and space in your home gym while getting the workout you need.

In this article, I listed several machines that can provide many exercises and their pros and cons. Additionally, I added some tips towards the end.

Best Full Body Workout Machine

Best Full Body Workout Machine - Force USA G3

Force USA G3 All-in-One Trainer

  • 5 Machines in one: Power rack, Functional trainer, Smith machine, Chin up station, Core trainer
  • Weight rating: 992 lb, Smith Machine: 772 lb, Chin-up: 772 lb
  • 75 Exercises

The best full-body workout machine for me is the Force USA G3 All-In-One Trainer. It combines five different exercise machines into one piece of equipment:

  • Power rack
  • Functional trainer
  • Smith machine
  • Chin up station
  • Core trainer

On the Forcue USA G3 trainer you can perform up to 75 exercises, and it has a high weight rating.

Everybody is different, and you don’t necessarily need a big machine like the Force USA G3 to do a full body workout.

There is plenty of other equipment. As a Personal Trainer I give you my best recommendations below.

10 Best Full Body Workout Machines For Home

Dumbbells and Resistance Bands

Dumbbells and resistance bands are versatile types of workout equipment. You can use them for strength, cardio, and flexibility training.

If you have never worked out or just started again after taking a break, these two pieces of equipment are perfect for you. They are easy to use and don’t require much space at all. They also work well even if you have limited mobility or physical limitations.

However, no equipment is perfect, and each has its pros and cons. Let’s check their benefits and drawbacks below. I added some recommendations for you too.

Dumbbells

Pros

Dumbbells can help you target the muscles you want to work out. For example, dumbbells can target your chest, back, legs, biceps, triceps, core, and shoulders [1]. Also, they allow for more freedom of movement, and you can use them in more ways than other types of weights.

If you’re on a budget, dumbbells are a good choice because they’re cheaper than machines. They don’t require special equipment either, so you don’t have to spend money on anything extra.

Cons

However, dumbbells have some downsides. They are limited in their variation—you can’t change the weight of the dumbbells. So if you want to train with heavier or lighter weights, you’ll need to buy several pairs of dumbbells. Or another option is to buy adjustable dumbbells.

You may think adjustable dumbbells are expensive. But they’re actually less expensive and save more space than buying multiple sets of fixed-weight dumbbells. Long-term, it is more cost-effective.

If you want to start using adjustable dumbbells, here are some options.

Bowflex SelectTech 552 Adjustable Dumbbell

On-Demand Trainer-Led Videos
Storage Trays Included
1-Year JRNY Membership included

If you’re looking for a dumbbell with a wide range of weight options, the Bowflex SelectTech 552 Adjustable Dumbbell is the way to go.

This model has 15 different weight options—from 5 pounds up to 52.5 pounds—in 2.5-pound increments.

I hear other users are having a hard time adjusting the weights. It is actually very easy to use, just don’t try to overcomplicate the weight combinations in your head.

There are two knobs at the ends of the dumbbell; you can use that to adjust the weight setting. Turn the knob to your desired weight, and once you hear a “click,” you can lift the weights already.

The dumbbell handles are easy to grip and feel secure in your hands. It has a storage tray that you can use to store the weights when they’re not in use.

This is a great value for your money, because this one adjustable dumbbell is equivalent to 15 pairs of dumbbells already. As I said, adjustable dumbbells are costly upfront, but are a great investment in the long run.

They even come with a 1-year JRNY membership, so you can take advantage of all the great workouts and classes that go with it.

FLYBIRD Adjustable Dumbbell
FeaturesFLYBIRD Adjustable Dumbbell
Dimensions14.6 x 7.9  x 6.7 in
Weights5lb to 25lb
MaterialMetal
ColorBlack
Warranty1-year Warranty
Other Features
(may require additional cost)
Storage Trays Included

Another option for you is the FLYBIRD Adjustable Dumbbell. It is cheaper than Bowflex SelectTech 552i, but has fewer weight sets and higher increments. There are five weight settings—5 Ibs, 10 Ibs, 15 Ibs, 20 Ibs, and 25 Ibs in 5 pounds increments.

These adjustable dumbbells have a special locked-down design, where you can only adjust the weights if you rest them on the storage tray. This is to ensure that the weights will not be damaged if you accidentally drop them, and your safety.

The only drawback I observed is that there is a hump on the handles to fit your hands ergonomically. This may feel uncomfortable if you have small hands. The middle section is thicker, so it may feel harder to grip. But if you have large hands, the handles may feel more secure.

Resistance Bands

Pros

Studies show that resistance band training helps overweight participants lose more body fat than other forms of training [2].

Resistance bands are super-versatile, portable workout tools you can use in any setting. You can fit them in your pocket, so you can bring them almost anywhere. Resistance bands don’t cost a fortune, so they’re perfect if you are on a tight budget.

And because they’re made of latex or rubber and don’t involve any weights or pulleys, there is less risk of injury if you misuse them.

Cons

Resistance bands can easily break if made of poor quality materials. So ensure you buy a good quality band for your workouts.

Here are my recommendations for you.

The Fit Simplify Resistance Exercise Bands are a great way to start resistance training. The bands come with five varying levels of resistance and are color-coded, so they are easy to identify.

If you are a beginner in resistance bands, start with the extra light and light bands. Then you can use the medium, heavy, and extra heavy bands as you get stronger. These bands are great for all fitness levels. You can also use these bands if you are undergoing therapy and recovering from a leg, knee, or back injury.

For your reference, these are the resistance offered by Fit Simplify:

  • Extra Light: 2-4 pounds
  • Light: 6-8 pounds
  • Medium: 10-12 pounds
  • Heavy: 15-20 pounds
  • Extra Heavy: 25-30 pounds

If you have skinny legs, check if the 12 inches length of the band will fit you. If the resistance band is too long, try to look for shorter bands. Fit Simplify Resistance Bands only have a 12-inch length.

Gritin Resistance Bands
FeaturesGritin Resistance Bands
Dimension‎12 x 2 x 0.51 in
MaterialNatural latex
Resistance Levels5 levels
WarrantyLifetime Warranty
Other Features

Carrying Case Included

Another option for you is the Gritin Resistance Bands. Like Fit Simplify, it has five resistance levels, is 12 inches long, and uses different colors for each resistance. However, Gritin Resistance Bands are cheaper and offer higher resistance than the Fit Simplify.

For your reference, these are the resistance offered by Gritin:

  • Light: 5-10 pounds (for injury rehabilitation training)
  • Medium: 10-15 pounds (for assisted yoga practice)
  • Heavy: 15-20 pounds (for arm muscle training)
  • X-Heavy: 25-30 pounds (for squats)
  • XX-Heavy: 30-40 pounds (for high-intensity muscle training)

Gritin tends to roll up/down when used, which commonly happens in resistance bands. This also happens to Fit Simplify.

Unlike other brands of resistance bands, Gritin has no rubbery smell that sticks to your clothes or body after use. It uses natural latex material, so it does not smell that bad.

Suspension Trainers

Pros

Like dumbbells and resistance bands, suspension trainers are a great way to get a workout in any space. They are compact, small, and lightweight, so you can take them anywhere. And since you just need to use the ropes and your body weight, they’re super practical.

Suspension trainers are also versatile. You can do tons of exercises with just one piece of equipment. This is another budget-friendly option if you’re not into weights or resistance bands.

Cons

To begin with, you need to attach it to an anchor point — you can mount it on a door, wall, or tree. Secondly, it can be difficult to execute certain exercises and requires creativity on your part. Finally, this type of training is not for everyone. It’s hard to use if you have a weak core. Before you start, ensure you have someone around who can help spot you if something goes wrong while working out.

Here is my recommendation for you.

TRX Full Body Workout Bundle

TRX GO Suspension Trainer and the Go Bundle

Material‎Nylon, Foam Handles
Weight Capacityup to 700 lbs
Warranty6-year Warranty

Set of 4 TRX Exercise Bands
TRX Water Bottle

If you want to try suspension trainers, I recommend the TRX Full Body Workout Bundle. The bundle includes everything you need: two suspension training straps, four resistance bands, and a water bottle.

You need to attach it to a single anchor point. Single anchor points promote convenience in setting up and give you more versatility and freedom of movement than dual anchor points. For your safety. TRX uses a locking loop system to avoid the risk of slipping.

Once you have the TRX set up, you can start trying out the TRX’s seven foundational movements—push, pull, plank, lunge, hinge, squat, and rotate. And if you want to try other workouts, you can subscribe to the TRX Training Club app or be creative in coming up with other routines.

One of the downsides I observed firsthand is that the handles and straps absorb sweat when you are working out. Well, I expected this to happen, but you can always wash the equipment to prevent it from retaining odor. Also, if you attach it to a doorway, it might limit your range of motion. You can attach it to your ceiling or any overhead object if that bothers you.

Compact Home Gym

Pros

Compact home gyms like dumbbells, resistance bands, and suspension trainers are great if you have limited space or want a piece of versatile gym equipment. Though suspension trainers and fitness mirrors are types of compact home gyms, I added them as a different category. What I will focus on here is a compact home gym, where you have a platform or bench to stay on while working out — a board type of compact home gym.

The advantages of compact home gyms are that they’re more affordable, portable, and space-saving than all-in-ones. Compact machines will give you access to high-quality exercises and equipment. It is also more stable to use than resistance bands and suspension trainers.

Cons

Compact home gyms have less variety in exercises and equipment than all-in-ones. And takes up more space than resistance bands, suspension trainers, and mirrors.

Take a look at this compact home gym.

If you’re not into suspension training, try platform-based home gyms like Total Gym XLS.

With six levels of resistance and 80 exercises in one home gym, this machine is for everyone: from eight-year-olds to 80-year-olds. It gives a great workout for all fitness levels, and you can use it in conjunction with other equipment (like weights).

Total Gym includes DVDs, so you can access their exclusive workout videos. So if you decide to use this equipment, I recommend setting it up near your TV.

Your Total Gym XLS comes fully assembled, leaving nothing to worry about. It is also foldable, so you won’t have to worry about finding space for it in your home. However, Total Gym is heavy, and you might have a hard time moving it around or folding it alone.

Smart Mirror

Pros

Smart mirrors are great because they show you how to do the exercises, offer feedback on your form, and record your progress. These features can help you learn how to do the exercises correctly. You can also use them as a sort of workout partner, which can help keep you motivated.

Cons

Smart Mirrors can be expensive, depending on what features/functions you want to include (e.g., whether it should include WiFi capabilities or fitness app subscriptions). The other downside is that many smart mirrors are for home use. If you’re looking for portable equipment, this may not be the best option.

If budget is not an issue, look at the Mirror smart mirror.

It also gives you weight recommendations and counts your reps, so you don’t have to do the math yourself.

You can access a large library of workouts with over 10,000 classes on-demand. There are weekly curated workouts, daily live classes, and one-on-one training sessions.

You will get live in-class feedback from the coaches to help you improve your form and technique. You can also get exercises specially customized to your fitness level and body.

The Mirror has competitions and games, so you can compete with others. You can also exercise with your friends if you need more motivation.

When not in use, this fitness mirror looks like an ordinary mirror. It will fit well in your home, and you won’t have to worry about it taking up space, as it is sleek and compact. You have the option to mount it on a wall or put it on a stand.

However, you can do much exercise with the Mirror alone. You will need additional equipment, like weights. Mirror offers a package that includes additional devices, and of course, it comes with a price.

All-in-one

Pros

All-in-one home gyms are generally cheaper than buying separate machines. They can also take up less space, which is excellent if you don’t have a lot of room in your house. Instead of maintaining each machine individually, you just have to maintain your home gym as a whole.

All-in-one home gyms also provide more exercises than the other categories I listed above.

Cons

If you’re looking for equipment that you can customize to fit your specific needs, this may not be the best option for you. All-in-ones use a standard set of parts, so if you have any special needs or requirements, they may be hard to accommodate.

All-in-one home gyms are also generally more expensive and take up more space than other categories.

Here are some all-in-one options for you.

If you have enough space for an all-in-one in your home gym, I recommend the Force USA G3 All-In-One Trainer.

This machine combines a power rack, functional trainer, smith machine, chin up station, and core trainer into one piece of equipment. It allows you to adjust the power rack into 50 different numbered adjustment points, so you can do your workouts in any position. Plus, the smith machine can hold weight plates up to 772 pounds.

You can perform up to 75 different exercises on the functional trainer and the cable crossover. And there are additional exercises you can do using the included accessories.

If it is your first time assembling this type of equipment, it might take up to 2-4 hours, since there are many parts. Also, it may wobble a little when you use it. But if you assembled it correctly, this machine is stable to use.

Another option for you is the Body-Solid EXM2500S Home Gym. Like the Force G3, Body-Solid combines multiple machines into one piece of equipment.

This model has four workout stations—press arm/leg developer, pulley, pec station, and the optional leg press station. And you can do multiple exercises for each station. The machine comes loaded with 210 pounds of resistance, and a lifetime warranty covers it.

You may have a hard time assembling this equipment. There are no good instructions in the manual, and the parts are not numbered or labeled. It is only marked on the manual, not on the part itself. There is a diagram on how to install it, but there are no written instructions. So, ensure you have the patience and time when assembling it. Here is a copy of the manual for your reference.

If you’re on a budget, the Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym is the most affordable all-in-one on this list. It’s not just affordable—it’s also versatile, with 30 strength exercises and a built-in rowing station.

If you are a beginner, Bowflex PR1000 is a must-have. It delivers resistance up to 100 pounds on each arm, which is enough to cater to the needs of beginners or moderate lifters. However, if you are a heavy lifter or bodybuilder, you should go for the PR3000 model, since it has an upgradable resistance.

What I like about this equipment are the built-in rowing station and the product manual. Rowing can target 85% of your body’s muscles [3], and if you combine that with the 30 exercises, you can get a full-body workout. Also, the product manual gives you detailed instructions and enumerates all the muscles worked for each workout.

What to look for in the best full body workout machine for home?

Targeted Muscles

Make sure the machine targets all the right muscles. List all the body parts you want to work on, and see if the machine offers exercises that target them.

I know you are looking for a full-body workout machine, but no machine is perfect. Though they can work multiple muscles, no single machine can target all your muscles. So list your priorities and check if the machine you want can cater to your needs.

Resistance

If you’re working out at home, you need to ensure that the machine you purchase gives you a challenging workout. You can do this by looking for a machine that offers multiple resistance levels.

So if you’re starting out and don’t want to push yourself too hard, start with low resistance. But ensure it offers higher resistance, too, if you want to challenge yourself as your fitness level increases.

Space

If you don’t have room for a full-body workout machine in your home, you probably won’t use it. Make sure you have enough space in your house before purchasing one.

Dumbbells, resistance bands, suspension trainers, and smart mirrors are great choices if you have limited space. But if you can spare some room for an all-in-one or compact home gym, you’ll have more options.

Price and Warranty

When you buy a full-body workout machine, it can be expensive, so it’s essential to find one with a reasonable price and warranty. The warranty will protect you against any mechanical problems with the machine over time.

The most affordable options for you are the dumbbells, resistance bands, and suspension trainers. But if you want an all-in-one, Bowflex PR1000 is a budget-friendly option. Body-Solid EXM2500S offers a lifetime warranty, which is a good feature to consider.

Which machine is best overall?

best full body workout machine for home
Best Full Body Workout Machine For Home

So, what’s the best full-body workout machine for home? I say it depends on your needs and goals.

As I mentioned, some machines can target multiple muscles, but no exercise machine can target all your muscles. You can look at the exercises a machine offers and see if that is what you want. Look for an exercise machine that is as versatile and functional as possible.

But if I had to choose one among my recommendations, the best full-body workout machine for me is the Force USA G3 All-In-One Trainer. Like Tonal, it combines multiple exercise machines (power rack, functional trainer, smith machine, chin up station, and core trainer) into one piece of equipment. But Force USA G3 is cheaper than Tonal. Plus, you can perform up to 75 exercises, and it has a high weight rating.
